Wheeling High School Jazz Band - Dimensional Sounds (Illinois, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Psychedelic) [1969-1970]

Wheeling High School Jazz Band - Dimensional Sounds 1969-70

Jazz, Funk, Psychedelic, Soul

Midwestern teens punctuate the summer of love with an exclamation point, as they bring the funk on this psyched-out High School Jazz LP.

This album is exactly what I am hoping to find every time I waste a dollar or two on an old High School band record, most of which are pretty unremarkable.

However the Wheeling High School Jazz Band of 1969-1970 do not sound like a High School Jazz Band, they sound like a psychedelic rock group with jazz and soul influences.

What separates this album from the rest?

The recording quality is very high, the musicianship of this band full of teenagers is impressive for a group of any age.

It should also be noted that the amount of original compositions on this album are not only unusual for this type of release, but very enjoyable.

The album as a whole is solid, but the standout track, Come On Baby, is something special. It's an original soul/funk tune with killer vocals (rare for a record like this), a funky bass line, a wild sax solo, and tons of energy. It's just absolutely wonderful.
